‘What Do Pool Technicians Actually Do?’

pool technicianHave you ever stopped to watch your pool technician when he or she arrives at your home to service your pool? They look like they are very busy, but what are they actually doing?

Actually, quite a lot. While each job is a little bit different depending on the size of the pool and the type of equipment it has, every stop follows essentially the same five steps, though not always performed in the same order.

Surface and Bottom Cleaning

The first step is to remove any debris that may be floating on the surface of the pool, including dead leaves, insects, tree pollen, and more. Then the bottom of the pool typically will be vacuumed using an underwater device to remove any debris that has fallen to the pool floor, as well as dirt and other things.

If there is sediment on the pool walls, ladders, or bottom, it will be scrubbed off using special brushes that are designed not to harm these surfaces. Then the technician will inspect and clean out the pool’s filters.

Once the water and filters have been cleaned, the pool water is tested to see if the chemicals that are supposed to keep the pool safe and clean are in balance. If they aren’t, the technician will add chemicals to bring it into the optimal range.

Equipment Inspection

During their visit, technicians often will check your pool’s equipment to make sure it is in working order. This can include things like pumps, heaters, circulators, and chillers. If the equipment is broken or not working optimally, repairs may be made on the spot or, in some cases, the equipment could be removed for outside repair or replaced entirely — after the technician consults with the pool’s owner, of course.

Finally, all of the equipment used to clean the pool will be checked and cleaned, then put away where it belongs.

Following these steps consistently help ensure that your pool is always clean, safe, and ready to use after your pool technician has completed servicing it.
